Position Summary

Develop; execute and train environmental, health and safety plans for Mark Andy facilities according to legal requirements of the county, state or local jurisdiction. Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risks and adherence to the law. Work with and engage Mark Andy employees to create a safe and healthy working environment. 

  • Responsible for establishing and enforcing safety plans, policies and laws
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to current laws
  • Conduct training for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Host Safety committee to ensure communication on hazards and preventive measures
  • Monitor compliance with audits
  • Inspect equipment & machinery to observe possible unsafe acts and conditions
  • Investigate accidents to discover causes and maintain required incident logs.
  • File Workers Compensation claims with Job Evaluation and work with TPA's.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Train or supervise training of employees on safety; safety videos, forklifts, power pallet jacks; overhead cranes; counterbalance lift, scissor lift, swing reach, prime lift.
  • Evaluates hazards within the facility for safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops health and safety procedures and programs for all departments and monitors safety compliance to reduce risks.
  • Maintains contingency plans, including fire prevention, and procedures for controlling hazardous spills in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements.
  • Supervises maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are accessible at all times according to regulations.
  • Develops inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules.
  • Supervises training sessions for emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, and forklift safety.
  • Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.
  • Monitors professional literature and attends seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements.
  • Schedule training and testing such as Hearing tests; First Responder training; Electrical Training; Respirator Training
  • Input safety data into databases for suggestions, near miss and incidents
  • Report on health and safety awareness issues and statistics
  • Responsible for filing government forms (OSHA 300)
  • Maintain, manage and upgrade as required fire and security systems for buildings.
  • Represent Mark Andy with government representatives including OSHA, EPA, Department of Natural Resources, St Louis County and Monarch fire department.
  • Handle any safety incentive programs
  • Assist with general HR activities such as recruiting, benefits, payroll
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel as necessary to other sites

Qualifications/ Education/Experience Required

  • BSc/BA in Safety Management, Environmental Health and Safety or relevant field is preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • 5 years proven experience as a safety and environmental manager in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards with regard to general industry
  • HR Experience preferred
  • Ability to produce reports and develop policies
  • Good analytical skills for data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Basic computer skills with both word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Deal with interpersonal conflicts or difficult situations
  • Work in an office/manufacturing environment.
  • Some travel required

Work Environment

Climate controlled office environment, no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. May have limited exposure to manufacturing areas that require the usage of PPE.  

Physical Demands

Frequently required to sit. Occasional walking, standing, stooping and kneeling. Frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
