Position Summary

  • Develop and maintain software solutions for integration and control of systems for new product development
  • Design and develop front end graphical user interfaces
  • Responsible for supporting hands-on development and testing in office, lab and shop floor
  • Develop creative solutions in various software languages to meet assigned software development challenges
  • Research, identify, evaluate, and develop new technologies for implementation
  • Learn new technologies quickly and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with existing systems
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problematic applications
  • Apply process knowledge to influence design and participate in review of designs
  • Perform software testing, validation, requirements analysis, and reliability analysis to minimize risk and achieve a high level of quality assurance
  • Create functional specifications (hardware and software) for proposed systems
  • Provide technical expertise on software development projects involving narrow and mid web printing and conversion equipment
  • Provide pre-implementation customer support by ensuring customer needs are adequately addressed during system design
  • Provide post-implementation customer support by leading problem-solving efforts through to problem resolution
  • Utilize tools and equipment involved in performance of essential functions of programming and design
  • Support maintain and document software functionality
  • Plan, process, and perform all assignments in an efficient manner with minimum assistance
  • Specify and select vendor components
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to achieve project objectives
  • Maintain positive relations with other operating groups, specifically manufacturing, technical services, and sales & marketing
  • Train less experienced personnel on established methods and facilitate transfer of technical knowledge
  • Exhibit strong, effective, and timely interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff 

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Overall knowledge of the computing environment at large, e.g. typical uses and user populations of operating systems, communications protocols, hardware platforms, etc.
  • Strong software programming and scripting capability, including experience with a range of platforms such as C, C++, C#, .NET, HTML, Java, XML, SQL
  • Understanding of software design methodologies, techniques, and best practices
  • System architecture experience
  • Understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts, e.g. routing, client/server, security/encryption, etc.
  • Database structure and design techniques
  • Proficiency with graphical user interface development and best practices
  • Troubleshooting of hardware, applications software, operating systems, networks, etc.
  • Comfortable working in office, lab, and shop floor environments as required.
  • Project management with the ability to participate in the long-range planning for new projects
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a dynamic work environment
  • High motivation and willingness to be a team player (ability to be productive in a team environment)
  • Ability to mentor and instruct coworkers
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Education/Experience Required

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
    • Minimum 3 years' experience developing software for a variety of platforms
    • Experience in industrial automation a plus

Work Environment

  • Climate controlled office environment, no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. May have limited exposure to manufacturing areas that require the usage of PPE.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit. Occasional walking, standing, stooping and kneeling. Frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
